In Good Hands Exhibition
Sykli1 and Sykli2 animation works for In Good Hands Exhibition, commissioned by The Friends of Finnish Handicraft and The Craft Museum of Finland, 2020.
In Good Hands exhibition deals with the relationship between contemporary craft and the traditions and materialities of craft in relation to the extensive archives of the Friends of Finnish Handicraft, founded in 1879.
Sykli1 and Sykli2 are based on traditional hand embroidered and cross stitched textile swatches from the Friends of Finnish Handicraft archives stored in Jyväskylä in the collection of the Craft Museum of Finland. The looped animations highlight the role of the forgotten artisans who made the swatches, the physical movement of embroidering and the meditative process of creating things with your hands.
The exhibition was held in The Craft Museum of Finland in Jyväskylä in 2020 and The Ostrobothnian Museum in Vaasa in 2021.
